The New Edexcel A Level Drama Course (Members)
led by Robert Fonseca
Tuesday 20th October 6.30-8.30pm at Central School of Speech & Drama, Eton Avenue NW3 3HY
This course is aimed at both teachers new to the Edexcel AS/A Level course and to current teachers who wish to refresh their ideas and approach, particularly in the light of the new 2008 curriculum. We will focus in particular on:
• Implementing an integrated approach to delivering the various units of the course: the choices we make and how they can be structured to create a coherent educational package.
• Ways of usefully incorporating accessible elements of modern critical theory, offering a robust theoretical framework for analysing and creating drama (semiotics without Saussure!).
• Practical exercises and approaches to teaching concepts, based on tried and tested schemes of work.
Robert Fonseca is Head of Drama at Cardinal Pole School, a mixed 11-18 comprehensive in Hackney, where he is also currently co-ordinating the introduction of the new diploma courses. Robert has been teaching drama in inner London for 18 years, in a variety of settings, and has taught the Edexcel A Level course since its inception in 1996. He worked for many years as a visiting examiner for the Edexcel AS and A2 performance units and he is an experienced course leader, having run many professional development programmes for NQTs and beginning teachers.
