Writing Challenge

A Plague on Both Your Houses!

We are delighted to announce the return of the London Drama Play Writing Challenge. This event will enable young playwrights to meet and learn from each other as artists and so start a generation of London youth playwrights.

  • Entries are welcome from all membership schools from Year 7 to Year 13.
  • Membership schools can enter up to 15 entries for £30.
  • Each entry should address the theme A Plague on Both your Houses!
  • Entrants are encouraged to be as imaginative and creative with their interpretation as possible.
  • Each entry should take no longer than 10 minutes to perform on stage. (We encourage pieces to be shorter so we can present more finalists.)
  • Each entry should have on it marked clearly the candidate name, age and academic year group, also the name of the play.
  • Each school must fill out an application form on line, and submit entries on line.

The window for submitting final draft entries is 1st April – 1st May 2013.

What Happens Then?

  • Each entry will be read by a team of drama specialists who will provide a short personalised critique as feedback to each candidate.
  • All feedback will be completed by early June.
  • Finalists will be selected and their work performed on stage. Their work will also be published on our website.
  • This project is in partnership with the London Streets Theatre Company – a new youth theatre company. The members will be happy to perform any piece which requires a cast. The piece can be recorded and sent to the writer if they are unable to attend.

Where will the plays be performed and when?
We are in negotiation with a number of performance spaces at present and the final decision will rest largely with the number of entries submitted and their geographical patterns. If you feel you have access to a suitable space and would like to offer support for the Challenge in this way we would be very pleased to hear from you. Contact us at londondrama1@gmail.com.

Fill in the Application Form here.

Good luck and we look forward to hearing from you!
