Papatango

Papatango

Papatango champion the next generation of brilliant playwrights, especially those who might otherwise lack pathways into theatre. Our opportunities are free, open to anyone, and anonymously assessed.

Our discoveries have won BAFTAs, OffWestEnd, Alfred Fagon and Royal National Theatre Foundation awards, premiering in over twenty countries. Each year we provide free training, performances or publication to over 4000 people, award thousands of pounds in bursaries and seed funding, and help anyone, anywhere, make or share in exciting new theatre.

Because all you need is a story.

Schools Programme

Designed to give students a taste of both playwriting and professional theatre-making, our schools programme not only complements the curriculum but also encourages team-working, confidence and creative thinking, empowering young people to tell their own stories.

In our Writing a One Act Play workshops, Students write their own short plays in groups using a variety of playwriting and devising techniques, have their plays published as printed playtexts with a copy for each student, and see their work performed in a rehearsed reading on screen by a cast of professional actors. The workshops are led by award-winning playwrights with a passion for sharing their experience and knowledge with young people. We provide a comprehensive Teachers' Toolkit in advance, which includes lesson plans, student worksheets and other supporting materials. We also offer teachers a 1-2-1 meeting with our Education Officer to explore other drama resources for your school.

We have funding to deliver our schools programme completely free of charge in 2020-23 to schools in the following boroughs: Camden, Brent, Barnet, Hammersmith & Fulham, Westminster and Ealing.

"The session was fab, simply fab! The facilitator was great, in balancing both the areas to cover and then giving the students time to develop ideas and write responses accordingly. Nothing felt rushed, all well paced. It was an incredibly worthwhile experience for the students." (Teacher - November 2020).

Papatango is proud to be an Artsmark Partner and Arts Award Supporter.
